SHENANDOAH
Written by Gary Geld, Peter Udell,
Phillip Rose and James Lee Barrett
June 5- July 3, 2010 |
|
An American musical set in our backyard
during the American Civil War. History comes alive in song and story
as only Wayside Theatre's artists can tell and sing it. Charlie
Anderson, a pacifist widower, lives with his large family and farm in
the Shenandoah Valley in Virginia, during the Civil War. Anderson does
not wish to be involved in the war because he doesn't consider it
"his" war, but he is forced to take action when his youngest
son Robert is taken prisoner by Union soldiers. Charlie is pushed to
the limit as his family is dragged inexorably into the fray. It's
North versus South, brother against brother. Based on the classic
Jimmy Stewart film, SHENANDOAH is rich in emotion, heart and humor. An
enthralling musical that springs to life with stirring anthems, gentle
lullabies and dance. Through joy, sorrow and turmoil, this great
musical reminds us that it's the strength of family that matters most.

Dead Man’s Cell Phone
Comedy
By: Sarah Ruhl
July 17 – August 14, 2010
|
| In
the tradition of some of our wackiest comedies (Loot, Unnecessary
Farce, The Smell of the Kill) we bring you a dark comedy about a young
woman who answers a dead man’s cell phone in a local café. Jean
answers Gordon's phone at the cafe because the incessantly ringing
cell phone in a quiet café is bothering her and he's just died
sitting up, only a couple of tables away from her. You never know how
connected you may or may not be! And to whom!

& Sun matinees @ 2:30 PM)

Mark Twain’s A Murder, A Mystery,
and a Marriage
Mystery
By: Aaron Posner and James Sugg
October 9- November 6, 2010 |
| The pursuit of money leads Gray to fall into the masquerading trap of a mysterious Frenchman, who literally appears out of nowhere. The plot is further complicated by the Cain-and-Abel relationship between Gray and his brother, who has somehow managed to become successful. Gray's other dream is that his daughter will be the sole heir to his brother's estate. Master storyteller Mark Twain serves up a foot-stompin', barn-burnin' good ol' time! Heroes! Heroines! Villains! Great tunes, goofy jokes, some hot fiddlin', and a whole lot of singin' and dancin'. What happens when you combine Bluegrass, Mark Twain, Murder, Mystery and a possible marriage? Magic and a ton of fun for the whole family!

Make Your Mark at
Wayside |
| When you visit the Curtain Call at
intermission or after the play, be sure to take notice of the beautiful renovated antique
theatre chair on display. Or, as you sit down to enjoy the play, you may notice the
seat in front of you marked with a brass plaque proclaiming the seat as a "Gift
of..." or "In Honor of..." a certain person. These "Endowed
Chairs" are the restored 1927 theatre seats, stripped of decades of paint and now
gleaming with natural wood, plush velvet and gilt, made possible by the donations of those
individuals so named on the back of each seat. If you wish to endow a chair, a donation of $250 will make you a
"permanent fixture" at Wayside Theatre. |
